Practically equidistant from the Rivers Trebbia and Nure, it was ruled by the Malaspina, whose castle, dating back to the 12th century and today hosting the Town Hall, is still perfectly preserved. Being close to Piacenza, it's presently expanding. Its economy is based upon agriculture, cattle breeding, food and mechanical industry.
